Travel Credit Cards
In many cases, flights are the most expensive part of a trip. Credit cards that earn travel points are a great way to get free flights! I have saved thousands of dollars on flights by using my cards for everyday purchases and many monthly bills (too bad you can't put your mortgage payment on a credit card). Using the cards for things you are buying anyway, and quickly paying them off (this is the key here! You don't want to be paying more in interest than you would for the flights!) can really rack up those points. Plus, when you open a new card you'll get a bunch of bonus points.
Here are two of my favorite cards:
For International Flights: Chase Sapphire Preferred
Points can be used for flights on dozens of airlines. Since you're not tied to one specific airline, you can search for the best flight to fit your needs. Flights are easy to book through the Chase Travel Center, which can be found when you log into your online banking portal.
For Domestic Flights and Families: Southwest
I love Southwest Airlines for family travel! Family Boarding (no need to pay extra to make sure you sit together) and 2 free bags per person really helps keep those extra costs down. Southwest also has the most generous policies of any airline: cancel or change your flight for free. So if you book and the price of the flight drops, you can cancel and rebook!
*Disclaimer: By using these links to apply, I also earn bonus points. Win-Win!Â
